China charity project: Napa Village

In the Himalayan foothills, deep in Southwest China lies a small Tibetan village: Napa Village. Napa Village is located 7km from Zhongdian on the road to Lhasa at an altitude of 3200m. The Tibetan world starts here.... The village lies on the banks of the magical Napa Lake and is surrounded by green pastures and glowing hills. The inhabitants are poor and live off of the profit they make from deforestation. 

The people of this Tibetan village live very harsh lives and inhabitants of all ages, young and old, work from early in the morning until late at night. There is very little time and especially money for schooling. The only school building in the village has hardly been used this past year. The village did not have a teacher to teach the children. 
 
China Travel Plan has found a charity project that has been designed to help this Tibetan village. Our local agent in Zhongdian, who organises this project, supports this village by collecting money for better housing and better facilities. This will help promote tourism to the area (thanks to the beautiful surroundings).
 
The inhabitants of the Tibetan village are aided in the construction of better houses, but also in offering extra service, such as cooking meals and accompanying tourists as guides. This way the Napa are taught how to develop a new and better way of life. It is also very important that the deforestation stops and that the authentic beauty of this area is preserved. Aside from increasing the profits for the village, this China charity project will also aid in improving education for children (as there is none at the moment). This way the children can one day take over their parents businesses.
