Prices below are valid until 31st December 2012 and are based on two people travelling and exclude international flights. The shortest of our holidays in Tibet, this Tibet holiday will take you up to the central Himalayas, the rooftop of the world. Your journey begins in the Chinese city of Chengdu, where you'll meet one of the world's most endearing creatures: the panda. From here you'll fly to Lhasa, the heart of Tibet. The lingering scent of burning incense, the murmurs of devout monks and the endless prayer rounds performed by Tibetan pilgrims will give you an immediate sense of being in an entirely different world...

Then it's time to sit back and let a driver take you on a trip to see deep-azure blue lakes, deserted monasteries and countless prayer flags lining spectacular mountain passes. Cities will make way for small villages as the vast Tibetan plateau stretches out before you. As you look closely you'll see the magnificent Mount Everest shoot up between a cluster of snow-capped mountain peaks. This holiday in Tibet will take you as close to the real thing as you can get without actually climbing the world's tallest mountain. You'll even visit the Mount Everest base camp where the actual expeditions prepare for their gruelling climb to the top. Your trip ends at a heavenly lake at altitude of 5000m after which you'll fly home from Chengdu.

China and Tibet

Route: Beijing - Xi'an - Lhasa - Samye - Gyangze - Shigatze - Zhongdian - Lijiang - Chengdu

This holiday in Tibet also combines a trip to China and begins in Beijing, before continuing on to Xi'an for a visit to the Terracotta Army and the then on to the magical city of Lhasa in Buddhist Tibet. You'll spend three days in the city giving you plenty of time to acclimatize to the altitude (3600m). Afterwards you'll embark on an unforgettable 3-day trip across the Tibetan plateaus, through the Himalayan mountain peaks to the oldest and most impressive monasteries inhabited by Tibetan monks. There's no better place to reclaim your (spiritual) sense of self.

During your holiday in Tibet you'll sleep near a Tibetan monastery in Zhongdian and leave the Himalayas behind you to spend a few days in the fairytale-like town of Lijiang, where stone bridges across canals are lit by red lanterns and where a tradition involving canal-side limerick serenades is still very much alive... You'll end your China and tibet holiday with a visit to the pandas of Chengdu; probably the best way to end such an unforgettable China and Tibet itinerary.

Mighty China with a topping of Lhasa

This is the longest of our holidays in Tibet and also offers incredible diversity for China travellers too. You'll visit Beijing where you'll see the Forbidden City and one of China's leading attractions, the Great Wall of China. You'll also visit the Muslim city of Xi'an where you'll see the world famous Terracotta Army.

Then it's time to take a step back in history. First you'll fly to the enchanting landscape of the karst mountains - steep rock cliffs with rivers winding between them. You'll travel by land past lakes and minority villages where locals still wear traditional dress, to one of the oldest cities in China and its walled-off city centre filled with courtyard style houses, lanterns and bird cages. The Himalayan foothills will then lead you to Tibet and you'll experience one of the world's highest capitals, Lhasa. Finally you'll end your trip in the 'Chinese middle-class city' of Chengdu with shopping malls and broad boulevards.
