Hong Kong trip - City of Skyscrapers

Hong Kong Arrival Tours

It’s China, but then again it isn’t… Officially Hong Kong has been a part of China since 1997 and a trip to China isn’t complete without a visit to this cosmopolitan city; there isn’t a city in the world that offers the same mix of skyscrapers, 24 hour shopping in streets filled with Chinese signs, and store windows bearing the most unusual foods.

If this Hong Kong trip sounds good to you and you'd like to start building your China holiday, take a look at our bite-sized China trips. Or alternatively, choose from one of our ready-made holidays in China.

Please note:
Prices below are based on travel during the low travel season. However room prices dramatically rise in October and at Christmas (sometimes room prices are even doubled) so please bear this in mind.

Arrival in Hong Kong

The ultramodern airport Chep Lap Kok lies on the island of Lantau, approximately 45 minutes by car from Kowloon. Every major city in China has flights to Chep Lap Kok airport. Upon arrival in Hong Kong, you will find that there are plently of taxis available at very affordable prices to take you to your hotel.

An alternative airport in the Hong Kong area is the Canton (Guangzhou) airport. Located two hours away from Kowloon, it’s cheaper to fly to this airport and there are plenty of trains, buses and ferries to take you to Kowloon. If you rather take this route to save some money during you Hong Kong trip, let us know and we can arrange it for you. A direct flight into Hong Kong however is faster and easier.

Hong Kong trip - Victoria Peak

1. During your Hong Kong trip, we recommend heading to Victoria Peak on Hong Kong Island. Here you’ll be able to enjoy the famous view of the Hong Kong skyline.

2. Visit the various markets in the city such as Temple Street Market, Ladies Market or the Bird Market.

3. Head towards Lan Kwai Fong in the evening. This is the happening place to be in the evening and is visited by a mix of Chinese and expats.

4. Visit the Sai Kung peninsula beach for a swim or just to admire the beautiful scenery.

5. Set the alarm on your watch for 20:00 to remind you to watch the Symphony of Lights, a laser-light show that casts a rainbow of colours on all of the buildings along the dock. It is regonised as the 'World's Largest Permanent Light and Sound Show' by the Guinness book of World Records.
It has been expanded and now includes more than 40 buildings on both sides of Victoria Harbour.

6. One thing that Hong Kong is famous for is being home to the Happy Valley Racecourse. This is one of the most famous horse racing venues in the world! If you have the time during your Hong Kong trip then it is worth a visit

7. After a long day of sightseeing you will probably be starving, and no trip to Hong Kong is complete without trying dim sum! If you want an authentic experience then I would recommend heading to one of the local markets to try this delicious dish.
