Independent Tibet Tours

This is the first in our list of trips to Tibet and you'll begin in one of the world's most religious cities: Lhasa. After you arrive at the airport you’ll drive to highest altitude capital in the world. We’ve made sure that this trip to Tibet gives you enough time for your body to acclimatize to the altitude. Short walks to the Jokhang temple and its Barkhor route or to the market place can be done independently. On the third day of this trip to Tibet, a driver and guide will take you to the Dalai Lama’s Potala Palace and you’ll visit several important Tibetan monasteries in the area just outside of Lhasa.

During the longest of our trips to Tibet, you'll travel by land from Lhasa to Kathmandu across the Friendship Highway; a classic route straight through the Himalayas. This 10-day trip to Tibet will take across high-altitude mountain passes and to mysterious monasteries in a small group. You'll travel by Jeep across the Tibetan countryside beneath deep-azure blue skies with a backdrop of the ever-present Himalayas. Half-way through the trip you'll reach the world's tallest mountain: Everest. Then you'll take mountain passes and roads - cut from rock in the ravines - and slowly descend to the Tibetan border with Nepal.

This trip to Tibet will take you on a breathtaking adventure amidst the world's highest mountain peaks. You’ll travel straight through Tibet by Jeep Land cruiser or minibus and you’ll visit the country's most religious Buddhist monasteries. The sound of mantras chanted by kneeling monks - ‘Om Mane Padme Hum’ for instance - and the scent of yak butter tea will linger for days. The air here is so thin that you won’t know if the cloudless blue skies, green mountain lakes and golden temples are real or just a figment of your imagination.

Everest, the world's tallest mountain. Seeing it is a once in a lifetime experience. Our 5-day jeep trek will take you from Lhasa to Everest base camp. Although you may not be climbing Everest, you'll still have quite an adventure since you'll be travelling at extreme heights. During this trip to Tibet you’ll travel across mountain passes above 5000m, enduring long days in thin air with bad roads and sleeping arrangements that are quite basic. However, this is probably one of the most memorable lifetime experience you can have…… One your unlikely to foget for a very long time.

The name ‘Namtso’ means ‘heavenly’ and located at an altitude of 4730m, this lake is almost truly located in heaven. Nomadic Tibetans live out here and they walk along the pilgrim’s trail across the Changtang plateau. Along the way they sleep in meditation caves. This is the shortest of our trips to Tibet and in just one day you’ll travel across the plateau by Jeep (with a driver and a guide) from Shigatse to the lake and you’ll spend the night camped out on the shores of the lake. Sunrises and sunsets at the lake are simply magical!
