China Accommodation

Whether you've built your own China holiday using our bite-sized China trips or chosen from one of our suggested holidays in China, you'll stay in China accommodation that reflects the character of your surroundings. You'll experience a wide variety of styles and standards of China accommodation, for example you might spend a night in a nomad tent, with a local family, or in a comfy hotel on a tropical beach.

As we use a hand-picked selection of authentic hotels with lots local character, we therefore steer clear of international chains. We personally ensure that each property has the right combination of features such as cleanliness, location, friendly staff and good service. We're confident that you'll enjoy our China accommodation options during your holiday in China just as much as our previous customers.

Special Stay Accommodation
- Comfort Level 4

During your China trip, you might decide that you'd like to treat yourself to something even more comfortable! For example you might want a relaxing start to your journey or to spend your final few days in style so that you go back home feeling rested. You'll find that hotels in this category offer slightly more comfort and have extra amenities such as one or more swimming pools, in-room mini-bar and an on-site Spa, fitness centre or sauna. So, as well as our standard accommodation, we've given you the option to upgrade your accommodation to comfort level 4 in some of the larger cities such as Hong Kong and Beijing. If you'd like to upgrade to this category, just let your Travel Specialist know and we'll upgrade you where possible.

Comfortable Accommodation
- Comfort Level 3
- Standard for China Travel Plan

A warm and inviting atmosphere, small-scale charm, comfort, cleanliness and a favourable location are all the main features of this category. They range from a lodge located on a mountainside, a retreat right beside the Yulong river, a guest house completely decorated in Tibetan style, a classy modern hotel right in the heart of Xian or a courtyard hotel nestled away in one of Beijing's Hutongs. Privacy is also important at this level, so we'll book a private room and your own en-suite bathroom for you as well. Most of the accommodation offered by China Travel Plan falls within this category.

Simple Accommodation
- Comfort Level 2

Sometimes when deciding where to stay in China, there aren't as many options, or accommodation isn't as important as what you'll experience when you step out of your front door. Our simple accommodation category offers you modest, yet reasonably comfortable accommodation options. You'll have your own room with your own facilities and since these hotels tend to be located in more rural areas, electricity and hot water can sometimes falter! Examples of Category 2 China accommodation include a wooden hotel in the same style as the rest of the village, situated next to the famous wind and rain bridge during our Passing Through Forgotten Villages module or a simple, cosy guest house with sweeping views of Tiger Leaping Gorge.

Basic Accommodation
- Comfort Level 1

This is China accommodation at its most basic. Camping and homestays with local families are included in this level of accommodation. We currently offer a level 1 guest house in Tibet, during your stay at Everest Base Camp during the Mount Everest Jeep Trek. As you can imagine, there aren't many accommodation options at this altitude! You'll have your own room with a shared toilet and there are no showers here, so it's just as well you'll only being staying one night! Cosy and very authentic, overnight train trips are also included in this type of accommodation. You can find out more about train travel in China on the relevant information page.

We slept best on the gently undulating trains! All the Hotels and accommodations were first class relevant to the venues. Y & Z Beresiner

Best accommodation was the Yangshou Retreat - one of the best hotels we've ever stayed in. T Hatfield

The Mountain Retreat in Yangshuo. It was perfect in every way. Tranquil and peaceful location with amazing views across the river. English speaking, courteous and helpful staff. Air conditioning, fridge, good shower, clean and well maintained - a home away from home. Would happily go there again and will recommend to colleagues and friends. S Snowdon

We liked the variety of the hotels and guest houses given to us as they mainly reflected the traditional dwellings like the courtyard house in the Hutong area. The hotel in Shanghai was a nice touch of luxury to end the holiday. J Harwood
Hotels in Chengdu, Lijiang, Dali and Yangshuo were all very much enjoyed by us all. This was because they were all full of character and not standard western hotels. J & S King

All hotels were great in their own way, nice to have traditional, modern, traditional, excellent! P Clarke

One of the best things about the whole holiday was the lovely traditional hotels we stayed in at every stop. J Allibone

All the courtyard hotels were marvellous; well located and unique to China. We specifically enjoyed the Hutong hotel in Beijing. The staff were so helpful and friendly. Other people I've spoken to have visited Beijing without even realise the Hutongs were there. A Wharton

The hotels were, without exception, excellent, and the one in Beijing was exceptionally good. L Sa
